String Mute and Pedals

A: Temporary felt mute blocking strings (coloured red for clarity). B: Pedal rods. Left hand rod activated by soft pedal extending up inside piano making contact with action at the top. Right hand rod activated by sustain pedal extending up making contact with damper lever attached to action. C: Top of sustain pedal rod protruding up through cloth bushed guide. Note graphite on rod. Arrows show brass key capstans and cup where the left hand action bracket fits. D: Pedals and wooden trapwork which is adjusted by turning the nuts on the bolts. A U shaped spring can be seen on the far right under the trapwork which returns the damping mechanism back to the original position once the pedal is released.
